Things to do

You’ll be amazed by the number of places to see and things to do in and around the area. Stop in the office during normal business hours and browse our brochures.

Get in touch with nature by taking advantage of nearby hiking and biking trails at Montreat. Go rock climbing, or horseback riding all within minutes of our campground.

There are hundreds of waterfalls scattered throughout our region. You can also hop into the water with canoeing and whitewater rafting or fishing! If you plan to visit in the winter months, bring your skis and hit the slopes!

The town itself has plenty of events and sightseeing opportunities. Antique and specialty shops, galleries, arts and culture, a farmer’s market, and tasty restaurants are all part of what makes the Asheville area great. Spend the day perusing the River Arts District or plan your trip around a festival or event to really see the town come alive! Check out the Event Calendar to plan your stay.

If brewery hopping is your thing there are several just a short distance away. Some of the more popular places include Black Mountain Brewing, Burial Beer, Highland Brewing, and Pisgah Brewing Company. Many are dog friendly so don’t leave Fido behind!

The Historic Biltmore Estate

Be sure to check out America’s largest home: the historic Biltmore Estate. This iconic property is located on 8,000 acres just minutes from Mama Gertie’s Hideaway Campground. In addition to touring the house there is also a winery located on the grounds. Mama Gertie’s suggests purchasing advance tickets to the Biltmore Estate through their website Biltmore.com as they are limiting attendance due to the current pandemic.
